The term “cloud” is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on the cloud drawing used in the past to represent the telephone network. The underlying concept of cloud computing dates back to the 1960s. Most cloud computing infrastructures consist of services delivered through shared data-centers and appearing as a single point of access for consumers’ computing needs.
With the sophisticated wherewithal that has sent cloud based services on its way to becoming the norm, the familiar old reference to head-in-the-clouds meaning frivolous or flighty needs a virtual update to substantial, significant or solid!
